Lost in Translation - Call me stupid, but I don't get it. Not only do I not get this movie in particular, I don't get all of the similar movies that are supposedly beautiful and wonderful because they don't make any sense or follow normal movie "convention". You can still have a bad movie that doesn't follow convention. The movie was a)boring. Not that a good movie can't be boring but try not to put me to sleep. It was b) choppy. One random scene to another - I know, that's art: unique, and bold. To me it's a movie that makes it look like the director didn't know where she was going. And c) pointless. I won't "ruin" the film but, in the end, was that supposed to move me?
I don't know what my deal is but I found myself half-way through the movie ignoring the movie itself, completely disinterested, and thinking to myself "why does every think this is so great again"? And this is nominated for Best Picture?
